Sophia Coppola may consider herself an "auteur", and may have a similar theme in her movies however she doesn't really fit under the category..
Plus she has only directed 3 films, which is not much to say she is a true film auteur.
A true auteur film will have alot of control of the screenplay, where Virgin Suicides was based on a novel.
She doesnt do much original camera techniques and shots, or something noticeable in her films that will make you go "ooh that is definately a Sophia Coppola film".
But you can personally think she is an auteur, but realistically she's not.
